What is it?
Hepatitis refers to inflammation of the liver and can be caused by viruses, toxins, alcohol, or other medical conditions. The most common types in the U.S. are Hepatitis A, B, and C, which are viral infections that affect the liver. Hepatitis A is typically a short-term illness, while Hepatitis B and C can become chronic if untreated. Vaccines are available for Hepatitis A and B, but there is no vaccine for Hepatitis C.
